Description: 1790 G. Britain Conder Token DH-27 Suffolk PCGS MS64BN A scarce issues, with a pop of 5, and 1 finer. Attractive, extra-smooth satiny surfaces are unmarked, and a mixture of olive tan, olive green, sea green, and original mint red line the surfaces. A choice piece.George III could not be bothered with the production of the minor denominations, and in turn, the British Empire suffered from a severe lack of small change, over many decades. No official coppers were made between 1775 and 1797. A copper boom in 1789 allowed many merchants to commission the production of their own circulating farthing, halfpenny, and penny tokens, which served the dual purpose of both advertising businesses and helping people complete transactions. These provincial tokens came from counties all over Great Britain, and they quickly became collectibles. Several books were written on them by the early 1800s, the most notable of them by James Conder's 1798 opus. To the present day, the entire body of pieces is still referred to as the Conder Tokens, although the standard reference is now Dalton & Hammer. When a substantial mintage of regal copper denominations was finally issued in 1797, the Conder Token era quickly ended. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE RETURN POLICY!
