Description: No identified author, but the copyright holder is William Pelham, the publisher. Printed for him in Boston by Munroe & Francis. Good only condition leather-bound volume, with fragile hinges showing signs of previous adhesive repair. It is unclear whether any if the binding cords are intact, though they are visible in the front and rear. Both covers are still attached, but should be opened and closed very carefully. This may or may not be the original binding, but in any case, it is certainly a 19th century one. Preceding the text there is a page with an illustration of a chessboard, with the bottom inch of that page missing. The illustration itself appears to be complete, but since other descriptions of the book refer to a folding plate, it should be assumed that something is missing. The text is complete however. Foxing and various spots throughout the book, though the text remains legible. The sample pages show some of the most notable spotting. One of the earliest books on chess published in the United States, the first being Benjamin Franklin’s 1802 “Chess Made Easy” [etc], a copy of which is currently listed for 12,500.00 Please examine photos closely if interested, and feel free to ask a question or request an additional photo. An adult recipient at the eBay registered address will need to sign for the book at delivery. Thanks for your interest.
