Description: This 1807 Abolition of the Slave Trade Medal (BHM 627; Eimer 983; copper, 53.5 mm.) has great eye appeal with great color and surfaces. Obverse: Bust of Wilberforce to right, with legend: “WILLIAM WILBERFORCE M . P . THE FRIEND OF AFRICA .”, with die-sinker’s name: “Webb” below the bust. Reverse: Britannia seated to left with shield under left arm and holding a scroll in left hand, with right arm outstretched to halt the slave trade, surrounded by allegorical figures from left: Prudence, Minerva and Justice standing, and Victory flying above, with legend on four lines: “I HAVE HEARD THEIR CRY | SLAVE TRADE | ABOLISHED | MDCCCVII."
