Description: #183 Thursday's Child Has Far to Go, Bisque Nancy Ann Doll of the Week. Vintage 1940s. Jointed arms, frozen legs, painted black slippers. Original yellow taffeta gown with red bows and trim, pantalets beneath. Gown is fastened with a safety pin, as was customary at the time. No box or tag. Identified through Elaine Pardee's Encyclopedia of Bisque Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls, page 251. See photos. Doll is cleaned, arms restrung. Dress is cleaned and pressed. One pinprick hole in gown and one tiny flaw in paint on face, see photos. I replaced her missing hat, using Pardee's book as a guide. Her name is from the poem Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace. Wednesday's child is full of woe, Thursday's child has far to go. Friday's child is loving and giving, Saturday's child works hard for a living. And the child born on Sunday Is bonny blithe good and gay I have been restoring dolls. Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls were created by Nancy Ann Abbott, who started making dolls as gifts and gradually created an impressive national company, despite laws that restricted women from owning businesses. The oldest bisque dolls were made in the late 1930s through 1940s. Bisque dolls with bisque arms are older than bisque dolls with plastic arms. By the late 1940s, the dolls were entirely plastic. Due to the dolls' age, they are fragile, and the fabric may be imperfect. However I make sure to note any flaws I see, as well as any repairs I have made. About me: I have been collecting all sorts of dolls (especially Nancy Ann Dolls, my favorite) since I was 8. Recently I started restoring dolls I find in need of TLC.
