This scarce map was published as no. 18 in the Report ofthe Superintendent of the Coast Survey showing the progress made in the surveyfor the year 1861 under the supervision of A. D. Bache. This coastal triangulationmap is centered on the river delta and extends westward to Marsh Island andVermillion Bay and eastward along the Mississippi Sound as far as Mobile Bay,Alabama. The course of the Mississippi River is charted as far north as NewOrleans and Lake Pontchartrain. Countless triangulation points are notedthroughout. Condition: Antique folding chart in good antiquecondition, nice impression on sturdy paper, uniform light age toning, slightlydarker along the folds, a fold repaired, and a couple of small openings at foldintersections.
