1866, 1st, A ROUND OF DAYS, POEMS, BROTHERS DALZIEL, CANADIAN BANKING INTEREST

Description: A Round of Days Described in Original Poems by some of Our Most Celebrated Poets and in Pictures by Eminent Artists Engraved by the Brothers Dalziel London: George Routledge and Sons 1866 First Edition An inscription by a previous owner suggests that this book was a gift from Norman S. MacKenzie, a notable figure in Canadian banking history. The inscription seems to have been penned by Robert Watson Todd. Further details about Norman S. MacKenzie will be provided towards the end of this description. Quarto, 93, [2] pages, period gilt lettered and blind stamped green leather. Small raised bands to spine. All edges gilt and gauffered. Illustrated throughout. Top board and several pages detached, damage and loss to top of spine, signs of tape repairs, rubbing and wear, else in good condition. Norman Seagram MacKenzie, often known as Norman S. MacKenzie, was a significant figure in the Canadian banking industry during the early 20th century. Born in 1878, MacKenzie's early life and education are not widely documented, but he quickly made a name for himself in the banking sector. He joined the Royal Bank of Canada, one of the nation's leading financial institutions, where his expertise and leadership skills saw him rise through the ranks. In 1929, he became the president of the Royal Bank of Canada, assuming this critical role just as the world was on the brink of the Great Depression. MacKenzie's tenure was marked by significant economic challenges, yet he was recognized for his efforts to navigate the bank through these turbulent times. His leadership was characterized by resilience and strategic management, which left a lasting impact on the institution. Tragically, his presidency was cut short when he died suddenly on July 30, 1930, while still in office. Despite his brief tenure, MacKenzie's contributions during a crucial period in economic history are remembered as an integral part of the Royal Bank of Canada's legacy. While detailed information about his personal life, including his family, is limited, his role in steering the bank through one of the most challenging times in global economic history underscores his importance in the Canadian financial sector.
