Description: For sale is a cool 1870 Shield Nickel. The Shield Nickel was fairly short lived, being minted from 1866 to 1883 before being replaced by the Liberty "V" Nickel. Because they weren't around very long Shield Nickels are always valuable in any grade. As you can see from the pics the coin is in well-circulated shape, and it would come in as an AG grade. But even with the heavy circulation you can make out the important features, including date, lettering, and "5" on the reverse. The coin has have some moderate environmental exposure, which is what gives it the darker patina, and which is actually very common for Shield Nickels. The price of the coin was reduced nicely due to the low grade and environmental exposure, otherwise it would be priced MUCH higher. This is a great addition for anyone with a rare coin collection. Thanks!
