1887 NEVADA State ARMS Tobacco Cards N224 Sweet Caporal CIGARETTES

Description: This fantastic Tobacco card (also referred to as a Cigarette Card ) was issued by the KINNEY TOBACCO COMPANY of New York, as an insert premium in their brands of Sweet Caporal Cigarettes and tobacco during 1887. This card is from what is considered the largest series of colored tobacco cards, with 622 different recorded so far. The Series is entitled “MILITARY SERIES”. They are listed as series N224 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue. The majority of the cards in the series feature various detailed depictions of soldiers from around the world in uniform (Both Ancient right up to the late 1880’s). There are also several subsets which deal with other subjects, such as ships, coats of arms, medals and U.S. States Arms. This card is from the U.S. STATES COATS OF ARMS subset. The front of the card features an illustration of, the COAT OF ARMS CALIFORNIA The Lithography for the card is spectacular with the background being done in a copper/brass looking ink. The Card measures 2 3/4 inches by JUST UNDER 1 3/8 inches approximately. As I mentioned it is just under the 1 3/8 inches it is supposed to measure, I think it is a FACTORY MISCUT slightly askew. The card does have a corner crease I have scanned the cards fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself .
