Sheridan, Its Romance and Reality: How An Humble Lad Reached the Head of an Army; The Career and Achievements of this Masterly Leader of Men in Battle; Realistic Descriptions of the March, Raid, and Charge of the Horsemen; and Graphic Sketches of Other Great Cavalry LeadersAuthor: Frank A. Burr, Richard J. Hinton Binding: Fine Hardcover Cloth BindingPublisher: J. A. & R. A. Reid, Providence, Rhode IslandPublication Date: 1888Edition: First Edition Condition: Good ITEM DESCRIPTION Today we are pleased to offer this nicely preserved volume on Philip H. Sheridan! A great find from a local Massachusetts estate! This antique volume is over 134 years old! A well preserved volume! Sturdy and square! Original publisher cloth binding shows just light toning and soiling, some gentle wear around the extremities, specifically to the spine extremes, and some light soiling and spotting to the page edges. Gilt lettering to the spine displays nicely from the shelf despite some fading. Gilt lettering and illustration of Sheridan to the front board display nicely off the shelf. A nicely preserved antique volume! Internally this volume is in good shape as well. Both boards and all page groupings are firmly attached to the binding, despite some noticeable cracking to both the front and rear hinges. No signatures, inscriptions, bookplates or library markings to note. Very clean! The text block itself is in good condition overall for age. Pages show toning typical of age, as well as very light foxing scattered throughout, the heaviest of which is visible to the tissue guarding the frontispiece portrait of Sheridan. A handful of pages also show some curious creasing, which I assume is a publisher defect; this creasing does not effect the readability of the text in any way. Otherwise clean and free from rips, tears, writing and markings. Nicely illustrated throughout with engravings in the text and many full page engravings. Please see our photos above for more details, as well as the additional photos displayed below. A perfect addition to any fine collection or a wonderful gift for someone special!
