Description: Cabinet card photograph of three men seated at a table playing cards, by Seers & Auger of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, circa 1890s to 1900s. The view, identified in pencil on the reverse only as Avec mes meilleurs respects, shows four men seated at a table playing cards and smoking cigars, inside a photographic studio. The young man seated at right, in shirt sleeves with a vest, looks right at the camera with a sly grin and holds his cards up for view (could be three of a kind). He wears a hat, like his two friends, but his cigar rests on the table in front of him. The other two young men study their cards carefully, cigars clenched between their lips. All three young men look well dressed. Seers & Auger seem to have been active around the turn of the 20th century. The cabinet card is in very good condition with only light wear and very light soiling. The photograph exhibits very good or better tonal range and shows very good or better detail. A rare image of men playing cards and a nice bit of Montreal history!
