1897 Antique Book "Headwaters of the Mississippi" by Glazier History Illustrated

Description: Headwaters of the Mississippi by Captain Willard Glazier. Subtitle: Biographical sketches of early and recent explorers of the great river, and a full account of the discovery and location of the source in a lake beyond Itasca. Published in 1897 by Rand McNally & Company, Chicago & New York. 527 pp. 74 listed full-page illustrations with tissue guard covers. Black material with embossed gold and silver titles and map on front cover. Lovely image of Native American with title in gold on spine. This book is from the collection of a prolific collector of scientific, engineering, and drafting reference books, usually containing prolific drawings and schematics. Additionally, he collected antique engravings, prints, and rare books. The gentleman was one of the first executive engineers at Texas Instruments, and collected numerous examples of fine draftsmanship. Condition: Good to Fair, acceptable readable and collectible condition. Mentionable issues: a) title page trying to partially tearing away from join, b) end paper splits on front hinge after flyleaf, after inscription page, and back end paper hinge, c) shelf wear on top & bottom spine extremes, with corner bumping, e) moderate edge tanning / oxidation, f) spine split after first signature, and g) I see about 3 dark random spots and smudges. Gold embossing and exterior graphics not eroded and in relatively good condition for age. No writing, intentional marking, or personalization. Pages are supple and not brittle.
