Davies (1881-1965) and Norman de Garis Davies (1865-1965) were a married couple of illustrators and copyists who worked in the early and mid-twentieth centuries drawing and recording paintings in Egypt. Their work was often published together, as N. de Garis Davies, and so it is usually difficult to determine who drew which illustration. The burial area Sheikh Saïd contains tombs belonging to officials and governors of the Hare Province interred during the 6th Dynasty. The necropolis of Sheikh Saïd is one of the earliest examples of fully constructed rock-cut tombs. The burial structors were simple in design and included tomb chapels, small interior halls and an offering chamber; most contained shafts that led to subterranean burial chambers. A first edition. All plates clean and intact. FORN-SHELF-0681-BB-0424-HK1476
