1916 PCGS PR64 πŸ”΄ 600 Minted πŸ”΄ 2nd Rarest Matte Proof 1c βœ… Lincoln Wheat Cent βœ…

Description: $3,500 auction sale of this PR64BN in Jan 2021, when the market was much weaker (click the fifth image). $2,999 verified sale of a PR63BN in Sep 2024 (click the sixth image). $3,360 auction sale of an NGC PR64BN in Nov 2021, when the market was much weaker (click the seventh image). Remarkably smooth and consistent looking for a 1916 matte proof and could easily upgrade, even more so after professional conservation. Many 1916's in high-grade PCGS slabs have been heavily doctored and have harsh, mottled, and unnatural appearances, but this non-doctored PR64BN is a rare exception, with smooth, consistent color. πŸ”΄ 90% BUYBACK GUARANTEE: Within three years from payment, we will repurchase this choice coin for at least 90% of the purchase price, after deducting Ebay fees, postage, and sales tax (if any). Coin and holder must be undamaged. Original buyer only. πŸ”΄ GUARANTEED LOWEST PRICE: We will beat any other Ebayer's price by 25% of the difference. Compared coins must be identically certified, aesthetically similar, and in stock. Valid at time of purchase only. Also applies to most of our other certified items. Unbelievably few and light marks for PR64 or even if it were PR65. PCGS called BN but faint color is seen under a grader's (or white) light. Smooth, pleasant, original look, not the usual mottled, unnatural mess. Bold strike even for a matte proof. Non-doctored unlike many if not most 1916 matte proofs in "problem free" PCGS slabs. Actual mintage 600 as per Mint records and corroborated by the population reports (see Red Book, 62nd Ed, p 114). Perhaps half of those few were spent, melted, buried, thrown into fountains, mutilated, etc. And many tallied in the population reports are resubmissions or crossovers of the same coins, re-sent due to the huge price differences between grades and color designations. The cent was included with the nickel in the 600 two-coin matte proof sets released in 1916, some of which went unsold and were thus melted -- or released into circulation, forever obscuring their fragile die markers and being thought of as common business strikes. One of our favorite dates in the entire 115-year run due to the unsung rarity and very low price. Mintage 806 times lower than 1909-S VDB's yet costs half as much! The price sheets are way too low for this 600-mintage key date as proven by our 90% Buyback Guarantee published above.
