Description: 1936 news poster: Will Rogers Shrine in Colorado Springs This is a rare Illustrated Current News poster, dated Oct. 2, 1936. It measures 12 x 19 inches in size. Printed on glossy paper, it is in excellent condition, with slight edgewear and two old fold lines, as originally issued. (These Illustrated Current News posters were published 3 times a week. They were folded into quarters when they were mailed to subscribers, which were typically stores or newsstands which tacked them up to be viewed by customers.) This poster shows the completed tower and landmark built in Colorado during the middle of the Depression era. The poster's headline and caption say: WILL ROGERS SHRINE BUILT ON CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN Near Colorado Springs, Colo. Photo shows a view of the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, which was built as a memorial to the great American humorist. The memorial, which is a duplicate of the famed Tower of London, is on Cheyenne Mountain at an altitude of 9,000 feet. The tower stands 200 feet high and will be dedicated next Spring after interior murals are completed. [gsp12307b] _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
