Description: Vintage large-format fold-out color lithographed 1938 map of the area between Athens and Tehran, printed more than 85 years ago. This highly detailed map opens to 63.6 x 89 cm [25" x 35"] and is drawn on a scale of 1:3,000,000 or 47.35 miles to one inch. Topography is drawn in relief, and the map shows political boundaries, railways, airways, desert bus routes, oil fields, pipelines, canals, and battle sites. There is large inset of the Holy Land from Dan to Beersheba, plus a smaller inset of Jerusalem, and five other insets: Route of the Exodus, St. Paul's Travels, the Crusades, Alexander the Great, and Economic Development. Among the other named places and features on the map are Cyprus, Armenia, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Latakia, Suez Canal, Persian Gulf, Sinai, Kuwait, Nablus, Aleppo, Ankara, Cairo, Damascus, the Garden of Eden, Baku, Rhodes, and a diamond-shaped "Neutral Territory" between the Syrian Desert and Saudi Arabia. The map was printed by A. Hoen & Company, Lithographers, Baltimore, and published by the National Geographic Society, Washington, D.C. It is copyrighted © 1938. Condition: This map is in very good condition, bright and clean, with minor weakness along one fold and no rips, tears, or writing. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
