Description: 1965 SONNY LISTON's Medical Check Prior to 2nd Meeting with HW Champion MUHAMMAD ALI Vintage Boxing UPI Wire Photo On Offer is this Vintage Original May 19, 1965 UPI Wire Photo of Challenger SONNY LISTON during a medical check up prior to the 2nd Meeting with World Heavyweight Champion CASSIUS CLAY (Muhammad ALI) on May 25, 1965 at Central Maine Civic Center, Lewiston, MaineALI was defending his title for the first time against the man he had won it from a little over a year earlier, in one of the great upsets in boxing history.The REMATCH was originally slated for Boston, on November 16, 1964 but due to ALI's emergency surgery for a Sports Hernia, 3 days before the Fight, it was rescheduled to the unlikely setting of the Central Maine Civic Center, Lewiston, Maine on May 25, 1965.The rematch ended in a 1st round KO Controversy as ALI's "ANCHOR PUNCH" Knocked out LISTON. ALI credited STEPIN FETCHIT with teaching him the "ANCHOR PUNCH", that he used to KO LISTON.The slow-motion replays and still photos showed that LISTON was indeed jarred by the chopping right from ALI. Many claimed that LISTON took a dive as it was unclear whether the blow was a genuine knockout punch, and still many other observers claimed that it was a PHANTOM PUNCH that KOed Sonny LISTON. ALI defended the punch he called the "ANCHOR PUNCH" and claimed it was taught to him by STEPIN FETCHIT.THAT CONTROVERSY REMAINS TO THIS DAY!
