Description: 1984 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 1st Print -Printers Proof LAKEVIEW JOURNAL. Condition is Very Good. Shipped with USPS Ground Advantage. This copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 was taken off the printing press at the Lakeville Journal, by an employee BEFORE the cover was attached and the books were stapled. The paper does show some foxing. This is the second and last copy I have from the discovery. To date, only two are known to exist. The pages are uncut and unstapled. My first copy was verified and sold through one of the large auction houses a few years ago. Any questions or if you need more photos just ask. This is a complete copy of TMNT #2 1st Print. Unbound and uncut “no staple holes”. It’s slightly bigger in dimension than the final copy would be. There is no cover because those were printed at a different time and proofed separately. About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 In 1984 Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird were friends and fellow comic book fans who decided to do a parody comic book along the lines of the early issues of Dave Sim's Cerebus, using anthropomorphic turtles to create a tribute to some of the most popular comic books of the early 1980s, Frank Miller's Daredevil and Ronin and Marvel's Uncanny X-Men and its spinoff, New Mutants. Eastman came up with the initial illustration of a ninja turtle while brainstorming with Laird. Using money from a tax refund and a loan from Eastman's uncle, the duo self-published a single-issue 40-page comic book in black and white in order to keep printing costs down. The initial print run was just 3,000 copies. The duo sold the first print through ads in fanzines of the day such as the Comics Buyer's Guide and through the small but growing network of comic book stores that had begun popping up across America. The comic book became a hit and went back to press several times. The Legacy of the TMNT and Expansion of the Franchise The success of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 set off a huge wave of small companies publishing their own inexpensively produced black and white comic books. This quirky self-published series also changed the way that collectors and investors thought about the hobby of comic book collecting, leading to speculation on small-print run independent titles, several of which were parodies of the Turtles themselves, such as Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung-fu Kangaroos. Most of these titles didn't last very long but many of today's top creators got their start working for these small, independent publishers. Many more TMNT comic books would follow and are still produced to this day with IDW handling the license for the past decade. The TMNT were the right concept for the times and took off like no other comic book property since Superman in the late 1930s. In 1987 the Turtles were launched as a line of action figures distributed in major toy stores and as an animated TV series. Both proved to be incredibly successful with young boys and their parents, turning Eastman and Laird into probably the most financially successful comic book creators ever to that point. The Turtles became the most merchandised comic book characters of their generation, with their likeness appearing on hundreds of different products. In 2009, Viacom's Nickelodeon purchased the rights to the Turtles for $60 million. The Turtles have had great staying power and have appeared in six feature films. On August 4th comes the latest film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from Seth Rogen, producer of The Boys, Invincible and Preacher.
