In one arm, she clasps a bundle of laurel and oak branches, while she extends the other in a gesture of invitation. The intention of Weinman’s design was to reflect both the peace and abundance that this country represents to so many who immigrate here. Also inscribed on this round are the words, “Liberty,” and the phrase, “In God We Trust.” The only exception to Weinman’s original front design is the omission of the coin’s mintage date, which used to appear underneath Lady Liberty.
