Once it was a dream to own a computer and have it in the home. The introduction of the micro- computer as a consumer electronic product makes computer power available to everyone at a low price. The purpose of this book is to acquaint the reader with basic information on personal computing with microcomputers. It assumes the reader has no previous knowledge or experience with either computers or microcomputers. This book is designed in two sections. The first section, Chapters 1 through 5, introduces the reader to fundamental principles and definitions. The second section, Chapters 6 through 10, reviews many available microcomputers in various formats. Although every precaution has been taken to ensure that the information in this book is reliable, the publisher, authors, and manufacturers assume no liability or responsibility for omissions or inaccuracies because of new product changes or any other reasons. Purchase of any computer related product should include inspection or review of the physical product at the time of purchase to see that it is complete as represented by the manufacturer. For manufacturers the assumption is made by convention that most specific product names mentioned in this book are trademarked or copyrighted by the referenced manufacturer that appears in the product description. Alphabetically, the following three specific trademarks demonstrate the extent and variety of trademark names in this field: DIBOL is a trademark for one of Digital Equipment Corporation's programming languages; MULTIBUS is a trademark for a system bus by Intel Corporation; 280 is a trademark for a micro- processor by Zilog Corporation; a multitude of others exist. The applications of personal computing are limited only by one's imagination and creativeness. The microcomputer can be programmed for games (i.e., Star Trek), business analysis, budgeting, educational uses, and much more. Many of the programs are commercially available. In the appendix, a Reader Response Survey provides the opportunity for reader feedback with the authors. This feature can be used to provide help in locating further information or products.About the Author/Editor: Condition:Few marks on outside cover. Inside is clean with tight binding.
