Description: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (Universal, 1948). Original Pressbook(Twelve Pages / 12" X 16.25") It was the swan song for Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney as the Wolf Man and Glenn Strange as the Frankenstein Monster, but the resurgence of the careers of Abbott and Costello. This horror spoof paved the way for several follow-up pairings between Abbott and Costello and Universal's famous monsters. This fantastic pressbook has lots of information on how movie theater owners were encouraged to promote the film......including the graphics for all of the 1948 Universal distributed poster material. Pressbooks for this beloved classic almost never turn up these days. When they do on occasion, they often have cuts or pages missing where exhibitors used the graphics for local advertising purposes. This gem does not have any paper missing and is desirable as such. Please note that this is the pressbook for the original 1948 Universal-International release and not the later Realart re-release of the film that is much more commonly encountered. Please read carefully and feel free to ask questions: --- This unrestored pressbook has good color, still crisp and overall very presentable appearance. It does have edge wear, slight tears, spine wear and separation of the covers. The covers were taped at some point in the recent past with a matte finish tape and it doesn't detract a great deal. There is creasing, minor toning, and a bit of smudging here and there. All of that is mentioned for the sake of better accuracy as this is a 76 year old paper item. ---The good news is that this pressbook was never cut into like most that were theatrically used and is complete. It was also never folded like most were in shipping practices to distributors at the time. Tougher to acquire with those two things going for it for this 76 year old classic! Please keep in mind that this is not a new item or a later reproduction but a genuine film industry artifact that was never available to the general public! A great souvenir of the original Universal Horror franchise! Will be shipped flat, insured and in a substantial package for safe delivery. Will require a signature upon receipt due to value. In the world of theatrical film exhibition, a pressbook in Hollywood's Golden Age was a promotional tool created and distributed by studios in order to market their films. Sometimes called "showman manuals," most pressbooks took the form of large, multi-page brochures that were mailed to movie theaters in the interest of helping theaters attract an audience.A typical pressbook contained images of the various advertising "accessories" available to promote a movie, including images of the available film posters, lobby cards, and 8 x 10 stills. They also contained the various newspaper advertisements exhibitor could employ in local newspaper advertising as well as short, feature pieces that could be planted in local newspapers, usually without cost. Pressbooks also contained various ideas for so-called exploitation campaigns, including souvenir-style give-aways, tie-ins and contests, as well as live promotional stunts. Most pressbooks also contained a list of the film's cast and crew credits (probably to assist local film critics.)
