Description: Signed typewritten letter dated April 6, 1948 from Admiral William Halsey Jr. made on his stationery from the University of Virginia. One of four naval officers to attain the rank of five-star fleet admiral of the United States. Serving in WWI and WWII having command over the USS Shaw (WWI), carriers USS Saratoga and USS Enterprise. Participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf during WWII which by some criteria was the largest naval battle in history. Halsey participated on the deck of his flagship USS Missouri during the formal surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945. 7.25 X 10.5. Very good condition.
