Description: THE WOODEN SOLDIERS OF OZ ( Урфин Джюс и его деревянные солдаты) is the second of six Oz books by Alexander Volkov (Александр Мелентьевич Волков) and was published in 1963. In this story, the envious and power-hungry Urfin Jus brings wooden soldiers to life with magic powder and tries to conquer the Emerald City, but a little girl named Ellie and her friends stand in his way. It was made into a Russian animated file in 2017 and was directed by Vladimir Torochin, Fyodor Dmitriev, and Darina Schmidt. THE WIZARD OF THE EMERALD CITY (Волшебник Изумрудного Города) was first published in 1939 and in 1959 a new edition of the book was published, significantly revised by the author. This edition first featured illustrations by artist illustrated by Leonid Viktorovich Vladimirsky (Леонид Викторович Владимирский) and became popular in the 1960s, leading to a total of six Magic Land (i.e, Oz) books in the series: 1. The Wizard of the Emerald City 1939, Revised 1959 (Волшебник Изумрудного города) 2. Urfin Joos and his Wooden Soldiers 1963, published in English 1969 (Урфин Джюс и его деревянные солдаты) 3. The Seven Underground Kings 1964 (Семь подземных королей) 4. The Fiery God of the Marrans 1968 (Огненный бог марранов) 5. The Yellow Fog 1970 (Жёлтый туман) 6. The Secret of the Deserted Castle 1975, published in 1982 (Тайна заброшенного замка)
