Description: This is a well-preserved Syphocrinites cf. elegans, from the Silurian, near Erfoud in Morocco. The crinoid is a dark blackish-grey lying in its original matrix containing fragments of numerous crinoid stems. The entire plate, matrix and crinoid is approx. 8 inches high, 5.25 inches wide at its widest and1.0 inches thick. The matrix has been stabilized with a penetrant as the mud in which the crinoids are found, dries out and cracks. Penetrant prevents this from happening.
