NOTE* The Cabinets had the ALTEC-604-8H Cross Overs which I removed and installed the 604-8-K Crossover That match the Speaker in the cabinet. Some of the pics are shown with the H-Xover which has been removed. Shown in the pictures is Pink Noise generated from a “General Radio” Vintage Pink Noise Generator thru a MARANTZ 3300 Preamp… Set to Flat- Or No EQ- response and then sent to a BGW 750E Power Amp and out to the Altec 604-8K Speaker. ONLY ONE SPEAKER IS UNDER TEST. The resultant Freq Response graph is shown on a Vintage “Crown BDP-2” Real Time analyzer. The Celebrated Precision RTA Microphone is a “BUEL & KJAER” microphone used for test and alignment in the audio industry. No other equipment in the rack shown is operational. This shows that both drivers in the cabinet are operational and working under actual power input. Of course, once installed in your playback area a nice 1/3rd octave Eq would be used to trim the highs and lows in your playback area. This set up shown was quick and fast just to show that the drivers are working ok. THE DRIVE RACK IN THE PICTURE AND MICROPHONE ARE NOT FOR SALE ONLY THE TWO ALTEC 604-8K SPEAKER CABINETS WITH CROSSOVERS ARE FOR SALE The 612C cabinet is one of the recommended Cabinets used for the 604 Series in their catalog. Altec suggests this cabinet as Good with a 6.8 cubic foot interior. The other one is the 620 finished in Walnut for the home which has a 9 Cubic foot interior. The 612C was finished in gray primer paint when manufactured. It is a super well-built enclosure Thick and Heavy. The ones for sale here also have ball bearing casters that roll very nicely. These cabinets were built by Altec back in the day and have been in a Monitor Environment and I don’t think used on the road. The Cabinet without wheels dimensions are..... Height. 29&3/4 Inches.... Width....25&1/2 inches...Depth...20 Inches. There are some light scratches and small indentations in the cabinets, but they covered up nicely with the painting that I did. They are finished in a dark charcoal gray color. They look nice. I would give them a Rating of good. The 604-8K speakers are in excellent shape with no cone or surround damage. The frames of the speakers look great. The Speakers are held onto the face plate by 4 hex head ¼ 20 bolts that go thru the inside frame mounting holes. And 4 Outside clamp brackets which give a tight seal. Also included with the 604’s are two new plastic packed replacement Hi frequency diaphragms that are not Altec but Aftermarket Replacements. The speakers and the Crossovers are sealed with 1/8-inch Cork gaskets as well as the Speaker terminals on the rear which have their own seal. The terminals can be used with banana plugs or unscrewed for speaker wire. The Cabinets are super airtight, and the Bottom end sound is Strong. Also, The Cabinets come with the original Black Cloth Speaker Grill Covers. They have some slight ware marks in the corner and are generally in fair shape but do look fine. The Crossovers are in good working condition, they are the 604-8K models that have a push button that lets you adjust HF Eq/ MF Eq/ HF Atten/And Dual Band Eq. The standard Crossover used on many Altec 604’s only lets you adjust HI F Atten although there are several different models. The interior wiring is done with 16-gauge silver stranded wire with flexible insulation. There is also a Service loop I designed which can enable you to pull the speaker up and have room to move it for service if necessary as well as the Crossover which pulls out from the front with plenty of lead wire. The connections on the Crossovers are ¼ push on tabs which can be removed so the unit can be taken out. The 604- Series has been used over the past Decades in most Recording Studios as Playback and Mastering Monitors. They have also been used in Live sound installations. Since they are a duplex design, time alignment between the two drives is excellent. Also, Please Note*: The Altec Speakers Listed Here are sold as A Pair. I will Not Break Up the Pair to Sell one.
