Description: This is a 2nd century AD marble bust of a goddess which is complete to the waist. It is possibly a small provincial version of aphrodite, as this was reportedly found many years ago in Roman Anatolia. Her right arm is covering her breast as a sign of modesty. The left arm is missing but which, if present, would have covered her pubic area. On her head, the hair is in a bun with a bow style on top and loose locks of hair on her shoulders and upper back. The condition of marble in archeological finds depends of the contents of the ground where they are found, such as acidity, contamination and water which can modify the surface. In its original state, several centuries ago, details of this ;lovely sculpture would have been even more delineated. This charming little marble has been in my collection over 30 years, but now she is restless and looking for a new and welcoming home. This small mounted marble comes with a certificate of authenticity.Height: 3.5 inches note: Canadians and other foreign buyers please use ebay shipping
