Description: Antique cast iron drill press or lathe multi diameter V belt clutch assembly. I believe this clutch was meant to be installed upside down above a lathe or a drill press or other machinery and operated either manually with a foot pedal or via some other mechanism. Pulling down on the lever arm activated, or maybe deactivated the machinery. The clutch works via friction between the largest outer wheel which has a leather facing and the multi diameter pulley. The lever arm has a spring mechanism with a leather "hump" in the middle that fits in the groove of the outer wheel that allows the outer wheel to engage or disengage depending on whether the lever arm is activated or returns on to its original position because of its spring. Its height to the top of its outer large wheel is about 10". The the 4 V grove pulleys range from 6 1/2 inch diameter to 2 1/2 inch Please email me if you have any questions or if you would like to see any additional photos of particular area.
