Antique Folk Art Memory Jug Rare Vintage

Description: The origin of the Memory Jug traces to the 17th century African American Slave Custom when they were used a grave markers, instead of an expensive headstone the memory jug was embellished with broken or small items belonging to or in memory of the deceased.This Antique Memory Jug is an original work of art - that was purchased at an Estate Sale from a family who had passed it down through multiple generations. Some pieces have fallen off and others are close to falling off (I will wrap in plastic wrap to try to keep item secure during shipping). Some items appear to have been painted gold prior to attaching - and as mentioned above - some piece are broken piece of jewelry, china (a small porcelain doll), buttons, glass and other things. There are several coins on this mug - one that is very legible - a 1826 Classic Head Half Cent. Some kind of Indian head coin - that appears to have been painted gold. I believe this was made around the time of the 1826 coin but can not guarantee. I also believe that over the generations that pieces may have fallen off and others were placed in the space.The button that is pictured separate - is a black glass - here again the back of it was painted a gold.
