Description: Fantastic antique Toyokuni III (also known as Utagawa Kunisada) woodblock print. This is a triptych, printed in three parts and skillfully joined by the framer. As a triptych each section is signed by the artist and publisher, so this framed piece is signed three times. It was printed/published by Tsujiya Yasubei. They were active 1842-1863. That would make this an Edo Period print through and through. The framing job is absolutely beautiful. Some type of plant matter woven textile makes up the matting. It appears to be bamboo possibly. This gives the presentation an incredibly unique and very oriental look. The frame itself is beautifully gilt wood. The frame back is covered in a plush textile of some sort. I assume the previous owner had expensive wall paper or paint and wanted to make sure their walls weren’t scratched. Both the prints and frame appear to be in excellent condition. Overall this makes for a very appealing presentation. There are many great woodblocks to be had on the market. At the end of the day you just choose one whose subject matter you like but one that will also look nice on the wall of your home. This one has good, pretty subject matter and one of the neatest and most attractive frame jobs I’ve ever seen. The total package! The buyer will need to add their own hanging hardware. I could supple a couple eyelet screws if you’d like. Buyer would then just need to purchase some wire or other cordage to hang it with. Frame is approximately 18.75”x34”. Ships ASAP! Thanks Free Boston area pickup. I’ll discount the price for a local pickup buyer by 25%. I dislike the work it takes to ship a large piece of glass that much.
