Description: Provenance - This 2-piece set was acquired from the estate of a woman who inherited it from her great aunt - the aunt worked as a transportation coordinator for the railroad. When P.T. Barnum was moving out of his Houston home, she coordinated the move and he allowed her to have it. This piece was appraised in 1991- the appraiser noted it was likely made in England between 1870-1880. He noted this is a very good piece and very rare. Covered in mottled brown and green glaze. Please note the small chip in the glaze shown in photos. There is also crazing as expected due to age. Essentially “square” pot with 4 bulbous sides with central oval cartouche. Moulded shell borders at corners which taper down to claw feet. Moulded lion masks at each corner. Pot sits on separate pedestal stand. The top of the stand has slight scratching where the feet of the pot sit. Height: 46.5” Width: 15.75” Diameter: 15.75”
