Signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a gilt frame. On canvas. Condition There are some marks to the surface, particularly to the upper edges of the painting. There is some wear to the canvas.Biography Johannes August Fischer was a Danish landscape and architecture painter. His brother was the renowned Danish artist Paul Fischer .Fischer was the son of painter and varnish manufacturer Philip August Fischer and Gustafva Albertina Svedgren. He married Adolphine Sophie Laursen. After a year and a half of apprenticeship with a sculptor, he applied to the Academy of Fine Arts where he enrolled in 1869 to study sculpture. Although by 1874 his attention has turned to painting. The same year he held his debut exhibition at Charlottenborg. Fischer travelled frequently, staying in Spain and Italy in 1883 and 1884. He also spent time in Southern Germany where his motifs became inspired by German and Italian cities. Several of his paintings depict Nuremberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Venice and Florence .
