Description: Rare WW2 era Australian fighting knife made by Whittingslowe Engineering in Cheltenham, S Australia. A so-called Australian Commando Knife - this type is hard-to-find nowadays. This exact type is illustrated on pages 55-56 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey; see the book's scans attached. The knife is used, but it is in better-than-average condition for the type - no edge nicks or dings; the tip is intact. Whittingslowe's WE logo on ricasso, Australian military "broad arrow/I" acceptance stamp on the guard's underside. Original wood handle grips with 3 iron pins and steel guard; no cracks or chips; all parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 11-1/8" / 28.2 cm overall; the blade is about 6" / 15.2 cm. The scabbard did not survive. This Australian Commando is in great overall condition - no edge nicks or dings; the tip is intact. Light pitting on the blade is noted for accuracy. Whittingslowe Engineering manufacturing stamp WE is sharply struck at ricasso; Australian military "broad arrow" acceptance stamp over letter I is struck on the guard's underside. Original wood handle grips with 3 iron pins and the extra-wide iron guard; no cracks or chips on the wood; all parts are tight with no play. This fighting knife is about 11-1/8" / 28.2 cm overall; the blade is about 6" / 15.2 cm long. The scabbard did not survive.
