He began his career with the Boston Red Sox, becoming a pitching star and in 1918 he started to show off his hitting skills. Ruth would help the Red Sox to World Series Championships in 1915, 1916 and 1918. As a pitcher he was 94-46, 2.28 ERA and 488 Strikeouts, and a World Series hero, pitching a combined No-Hitter on June 23, 1917. Sold to the Yankees for the 1920 season, he would become the face of Baseball, leading the Yankees to 4 World Series Championships in 1923, 1927, 1928 and 1932. He was the American League MVP in 1923 and AL Batting Champion in 1924. Ruth led the American League in Home Runs 12 times and Runs Batted In 5 times. The Babe retired as the All-Time Home Run Champion during the 1935 season with 714 Home Runs. The record would stand until 1974 when Hank Aaron hit the 715th of his career for the Braves, the team Ruth had retired from after a disappointing half season. Had the All-Star Game existed for more than two years, Ruth would have been an All-Star every year, instead of just those two. Ruth batted .342 for his career with 2,873 Hits and 2,214 RBI. He is honored in the Yankees Monument Park, his Number 3 is retired by the Yankees, and he is a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame. One of the All-Time Greats, he is a member of MLB's All-Century Team and MLB's All-Time Team. He was in the first class elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 along with Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson.
