Description: A 1930s original Bestlite Lamp designed by Robert Dudley Best for Best & Lloyd. This is perhaps one of the first and most popular examples of Bauhaus inspired industrial design in Britain. The lamp was originally featured in the Architects' Journal and became very popular due to its functionality and elegance. The present example has an elegant cased green glass shade which is in very good condition. The base of the lamp is black and quite heavy. The metal shows some wear and tear due to age but it is generally sound. Both the head of the lamp and the extendable arm can be turned into different positions which was one of the main success points of its design. The upper mechanism for the head is likely an early one which is usually a rare feature. The lamp also features a red and black switch at the the top of the head. The lamp remains in quite original condition and it works. Dimensions : Lamp : 88 cm approx overall fully extended. Shade: 16 cm approx overall H. Base: 22 cm approx overall Dia.
