Description: It is no surprise that this old tradition is of Moorish origin, dating back to the Moorish occupation of Portugal in the 8th century. Named “Fatima's hand,” the door knockers represent the hand of Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Mohamed. The door knocker is in great condition and mounted on a wood plaque to hang on a wall inside your home, or remove from the wood plaque to mount outside by your front door. There are a few scratches on the wood plaque but after I applied Old English furniture oil, they pretty much disappeared. There are no signs of scratches on the iron knocker.
