Buster Kenton's 1927 silent masterpiece, "The General". Buster Keaton wrote and directed this film and it was of the last great silent movies of the silent era. Although a great comedy, it was also know for some of the most realistic battle scenes in film history at the time. The film also was based on a real true life 1862 Civil War story know as the "Great Locomotive Chase", where Yankees try to steel a locomotive "The General" to shorten the war. This film deviated from that story in reel 2, where Buster Keaton goes about trying to get back to Southern lines when he learns about secret information of a surprise attack by the Union Army.
