Description: MASSACHUSETTS DOCUMENTWenhamSalemColonial EraGenealogyHistoryFiske "Hugh Peters preached the first Sermon at Wenham. He chose a small conical Hill near the pond. His Text was at Enon near Salem because there was too much water there. The Town held the name of Enon till it was incorporated. It is still remembered, and Peters' Hill is not yet forgot...John Fisher was pastor of a part of Salem called Enon. Since Wenham 1644 But not preferring the Soil in 1656 he persuaded the greater part of his people to remove with him to the Confluence of the Merrimack & Concord now called Chelmford (incorportaed 1655). He was in this place the Pastor 20 years. he died in 1656. His son Moses graduated Cambridge 1662, was Minister of Braintree. His Grandson Samuel graduated 1708 was Minister in Salem. His Great Grandson John, was General Fiske.Antipas Newman was ordained first Minister of the Church in Wenham, at the gathering of the Church there.Joseph Gerrish was ordained Jan. 13 1674 During this Ministry of 45 years were 971 Baptisms; 213 admissions full Communion, 135 females & 78 males; 53 deaths in the Church." A curious page of history, written quite some time ago, c. 1790. Old laid paper with old fountain pen ink. Solid church history, Massachusetts history, Fiske family history. A couple of members of the Fiske family served on the jury during the Salem Witch Trials & General Fiske served during the Revolutionary War. Seems a fair number of Fiskes went to Harvard. Page measures about 6 x 7 inches. One small tear by at edge, middle of left side, corners a bit crumpled. Easy to read, a good hand. ******We ship swiftly and with safety in mind.Thank you.
