Description: U.S. Cadet Rifle M1873 Socket Bayonet Designed for use on the .45-70 Caliber U.S. Cadet Rifle M1873 (Trapdoor Springfield). This bayonet is a scaled-down version of the issue M1873 socket bayonet. The socket length is 3". The cadet rifle was shorter than the standard M1873 infantry rifle, since its primary use was for drilling. However, the cadet rifle was made to the same standards as it's full-sized cousin and was every bit as accurate and lethal. I am not a military weapons expert. The information provided above is my best guess, based on images found online. This item was my grandfather's. It came into his possession while he was a senior engineer at Fort Dix-McGuire Air Force Base in N.J. during World War II. Please examine the included photos closely. Note: Though I am physically disabled, I will endeavor to get all packages in the mail within 5 business days of purchase. Thank you for your interest.
