Journal founded by Jacques-Louis Gautier de Syonnet (le Petit Gauthier), who died in 1809. Editors: Jourgniac Saint-Méard and, in 1791, Guillaume Brune, future Marshal of the Empire. "The newspaper of the Court and the City, known under the name of the Petit Gautier, whose putative author, Captain Saint-Méard, has atoned, through 38 hours of agony at the Abbey, for the filthy puns of his collaborators" (Peltier, Dernier Tableau de Paris, I, 200). "The Journal de la ville et de la cour [sic] was seized, the printing press burned, the apartment occupied by the author robbed, all the furniture burned; he was very happy to escape a quarter of 'hour before the pillage" (Gazette de Cologne, August 23, 1792: From Paris, August 17). The director of a Petit-Gauthier or the Little Post Office (JJ Lucet) was deported by the decree of 12 Fructidor Year VII.
