The Chemlali olive is a great-tasting fruit that is very similar to the Leccino olive with its dark color and rich nutty flavor with a hint of fruity sweetness. It is self-pollinating, but the fruit yield increases with cross pollination. Latin Name: Olea europaea Site and Soil: Olives like a warm, protected location with 1/2 day to full sun and well drained soil. Pollination Requirements: Plant Chemlali with Arbequina or another variety for pollination. Olives are wind pollinated and should be planted no more than 20 ft. apart. You can assist pollination by moving pollen from flower to flower with a small brush. Hardiness: Chemlali is hardy to 12° F.
