The basset horn, renowned for its rich sound, is exceptionally versatile instrument. When Mozart first encountered the tone of the basset horn, it became one of his favorite instruments. He incorporated it into almost all of his compositions and even wrote specific music for it. Beyond Mozart's celebrated work, other composers including Mendelssohn wrote for it. Moreover, Richard Strauss played a pivotal role in reviving interest in the instrument and reintroducing it to orchestral settings towards the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century. Crafted from Indian Cocobolo wood, the inner bore is sealed and polished.The outer body is natural, boasting durability and aesthetic appeal.The bell is made of brass in original finish. The keys are casted from brass in original brass finish, steel springs with best suitable pads. It is designed to be used with a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece. The barrel receiver is tailored for modern Bb mouthpieces, including the Vandoren B40 and B45. Equipped with two barrels for A440 and A430 tuning.
