Description: Artist: M.C. De la Vega? M. D. De la Vega? D.C? Painting is signed with TWO initials before De La Vega. I have done quit a bit of research on this painting and found a similar portrait painting by the artist “Joaquin Martinez De La Vega”. The two painting resemble each other by style, age, face, location, and females attire (shawl) Unfortunately, I do not know if this painting was done by that artist, after that artist or simply by another Spanish artist of that time. The inscription on the back may have clues for someone else as to who painted this. Along with the inscription is a very faint stamp (illegible). Inscriptions were wrote in pencil. Any information regarding artist would be greatly appreciated! The frame is not original. Details: Medium: oil on hand carved wood panel Dates: 1889 Signed and dated on front lower right. Inscribed and stamped on back. Measures: 4.75” x 6.5” Frame: 10.75” x 12.5” Region: Spain Condition: It does seem that there has been some in painting (re-touching) possibly. Please see close ups of face around eyes, mouth and hair line. I am not 100% if this has been retouched or not. Along the hair line you will see some blanching or blooming varnish. There are some tiny scuffs and scratches. Little tiny white and black spots as shown. Some discoloration in hair line as described above. Needs restoration and or touch up for areas described above. Still a beautiful painting and worthy of hanging right away. Great addition for anyone who collects 19th century portrait paintings and or Spanish artist! Painting is sold as-is!
