Description: Earliest airmail postcard to US after resumption of postal relations: 1 July 1948 postmarked photographic postcard (Kingsway in Haifa) with family correspondence dated 29 June, sent from HAIFA to NORFOLK Virginia USA & franked 35 mils for the airmail postage rate, tied by single strike of the head post office postmark. Postal relations between the US and Israel were formally established on Tuesday 29 June and this postcard may have been carried by the 1st Air France flight following the resumption of postal relations, on its Thursday 1 July flight (Air France flew weekly on Mondays and Thursday).
