The book give experience of the visitors: Ralph Fitch 1583-1591, John Mildenhall 1599-1606, William Hawkins 1608-1613, William Finch 1608-1611, Nicholas Withington 1612-1616, Thomas Coryat 1612-1617, and Edward Terry 1616-1619.It may perhaps be pointed out that at the time (1584) when the earliest of our travellers reached the court of Akbar, the Mughal Empire in India had not yet reached its sixtieth anniversary. It was in 1525 that Babur, then King of Kabul, crushed at Panipat the Afghan dynasty which had ruled at Delhi during the preceding three-quarters of a century. Babur’s son, Humayun, was driven from his throne in 1540 by Sher Shah, the Afghan ruler of Bengal and Bihar, but recovered his kingdom in 1555, only to die in the following year, leaving to his young son Akbar a precarious dominion over a territory which is today represented by parts of the Panjab and the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. About the Author- About The Author -: Sir William Foster CIE (19 November 1863 – 11 May 1951) was a British historiographer and civil servant who was Registrar and Superintendent of Records in the India Office. He was a member of the Hakluyt Society and was "the foremost authority on the detailed history of early British relations with India and other countries in Asia." He was educated in Coopers' Grammar School and London University. In 1882 he entered India Office and continued working there until 1927. He became Registrar and Superintendent of Records from 1907 to 1923 and Historiographer to the India Office from 1923 to 1927. He served the Hakluyt Society as Secretary (1893–1902) and President (1928–1945).
