Fanny Burney's novel was first published anonymously in 1778 and takes the form of diary entries made by a young aristocratic girl in England. An entry in EL's Fiction series, edited by Ernest Rhys, who has supplied a brief introduction. EL #352. In 'flatback' binding style 1, full ribbed red cloth-covered boards with elaborate Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front cover, brown topstain and fancy Knowles woodcut art at title page, endpapers & frontis. Volume lacks the dust jacket.
