But like most of the Festool tool line up it was designed with metric measurements in mind. With this re-designed thickness gauge the Domino DF 500 can now easily be set to center on boards dimensioned using imperial measurements! Note: When designing a product of this type a decision has to be made whether to setup the gauge to place the mortices in the middle of exactly dimensioned material (say from using a thickness planer) or from manufactured/imported materials (for example plywood, MDF, OSB, etc) which are rarely the thickness they are sold/listed as due to being imported and actually dimensioned in metric. For example 3/4" Baltic Birch Plywood is actually around 23/32" rather than 3/4" because it is made in metric dimensions. This gauge is setup to be used with material that is actually the thickness of the markings on the gauge. Mortices will not be centered on most manufactured/imported sheet goods, but will be on thickness planed material planed down to the measurements listed on the gauge's indicator. Seven settings from 1/2" to 1 1/2" with detent positions and labeling at each setting offering a positive click feedback ensuring the setting was made correctly. High contrast numbering on the front and top for easy visibility and an extended finger grip for quick adjustment. Manufactured using plastic that was color matched to Festool's standard color codes. We felt that any accessory meant for top of the line tools should look like it belongs!
