Description: For REPAIR Thorens Swiss Single Claw Mechanical Automatic Lighter Vtg SPARKS --- I have this listed for REPAIR because the striker wheel is not secured to the center post (it looks like it originally was secured in place by what was probably an edge flange or flare on the end of the striker wheel center post). --- I took a short video showing the operation, and as noted below it doesn't ignite the wick because of the diminished spark output (my assumption anyway). --- The striker function does operate (pressing the screw out/in button on the left side flips the over open, a claw rotates the striker wheel as it catches one of the three posts extending from the striker wheel). --- The flint is held in place at the top by a wire spring. --- The main issue I see is that because the striker wheel is not in a flat plane when it is rotated by the claw (it pulls a little as it rotates taking it out of a flat plane), the spark production is not sufficient to ignite the wick. I had filled the lighter and verified the wick was primed (I even primed the wick with a drop a few times), VERY occasionally it will ignite the wick. --- Looking closely at how the flint rests on the striker wheel it looks like it makes contact at an angle, maybe that's normal, when I first put a red ronsen flint in it sparked well enough to ignite, however after that it was basically not igniting. I removed the flint for inspection several times and found it was wearing/grinding unevenly, and not contacting more than 1/2 of the flint end surface. --- Occasionally the claw misses the striker wheel posts and flips open (you have to rotate the wheel and find the location that lets you re-insert the claw). --- When I was testing, I re-seated the striker wheel after each strike (pressing my thumb on the wheel face, you can feel that it had angled out on one side, ie pulling off the center post as the claw pulled it. --- A few times the striker wheel popped out which seemed to be because I wasn't keeping it seated after each use. I took a close-up of the wheel looking straight down to show how the wheel is angled out in the front after the claw rotates it. --- The opening button works properly, when threaded closed it locks the lighter, you unthread to allow you to push it and open the lighter (it is spring loaded). --- The hinge is fine. --- The front rounded corner of the top lid/cover has small dents and dings. The lower right threaded stopper for the internal reservoir is fine (appears to have original washers). --- The bottom of the lighter is stamped "THORENS" Swiss made 81816 Brevete A Letranger. --- The case has some scratches and wear. Some brass visible on the back bottom edge (in my photos there is an overhead light causing an orange hue highlight on the case edges). --- See photos for condition details. --- Will be well packed --- See shipping options above --- Payment expected within 3 days of purchase (contact me if you need more time). --- The item description is guaranteed to be accurate but all items are sold as-is unless otherwise stated. --- I don't have a way to arrange for a local pick-up of this item, I'm sorry for the inconvenience
