Description: This UNREAD limited leather book set from The Franklin Mint is in NEAR PERFECT condition with no markings inside or out and no attached bookplates. Both books are basically untouched. The entire text block for volume 2 is still stuck together at the gilded edges because the pages have never even been separated for the first time after having been treated with gold leaf during production. You will notice a slight variance in the color or hue of the leather between volumes 1 & 2. This is completely normal and not unique to this particular set. Volumes 1 & 2 differ in their leather like this in all of them. I have two pairs of this phenomenal book set, and they are both exactly like this. Both volumes here are in very, very good, unused condition and are as tight as bricks. They also come with the Notes From the Editors booklet as shown. This book set is part of the Franklin Library's prestigious definitive publication commemorating the 25th anniversary of Encyclopedia Britannica's "The Great Books of the Western World". The translation here is also a different(superior) one than all other Franklin Library and Oxford University Press editions use. Fittingly for this series, it is the academic and scholarly translation from John Ormsby, which is generally accepted to be the most accurate. It is also the most interesting and poetic, in my opinion. The humor is rendered so much better, and the language has a more authentic feel to it. The best translations are the ones that don't read like translations, and this is a prime example. All books in my store are clean and free of odors, dust, or dander and come from a well-ventilated building with NO smoking, vaping, pets, children, or even food and cooking. Simply put, these books are fresh, crisp, and cared for. COMBINED SHIPPING is always automatically active, and if you buy 5 or more in the same transaction, FREE SHIPPING!! Please feel free to check out the HUNDREDS of different premium collectible books I have for sale right now, nearly all of which are LIKE NEW or actually BRAND NEW and unopened. Don Quixote is a Spanish epic novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Originally published in two parts, its full title is The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote de La Mancha, and is a founding work of Western literature. It is often labelled as the first modern novel and one of the greatest works ever written. Don Quixote is also one of the most-translated books in the world and the best-selling novel of all time. When first published, Don Quixote was usually interpreted as a comic novel. After the French Revolution, it was better known for its presumed central ethic that in some ways individuals can be intelligent while their society is quite fanciful and was seen as a fascinating, enchanting or disenchanting book in this dynamic and a didactic matter. In the 19th century, it was seen as social commentary, but no one could easily tell "whose side Cervantes was on". Many critics came to view the work as a tragedy in which Don Quixote's idealism and nobility are viewed by the post-chivalric world as not enough and are defeated and rendered useless by a common reality devoid of his "true" romantic inclinations designed for the taste of royalty; by the 20th century, the novel had come to occupy a canonical space as one of the foundations of letters in literature.
