Description: This Franklin Library hardcover leatherette is in NEAR PERFECT condition with no markings inside or out and no attached bookplates. The spine is tight and strong. The corners are sharp and straight. The gold gilt is virtually flawless. Everything is bright and shiny. There are no discernable imperfections. I've personally never seen this particular book in better condition, and you'd be hard-pressed to find it better outside of its original seal. 247 pages. Franklin Library hardcover leatherette books are extremely durable and well-constructed, using the same beautiful archival acid-free paper as their top-tier premium Limited Edition Leather books. The leatherette cover editions are highly resistant to scratches, gouges, dents, or other abrasions and damage. Much more so than genuine leather, which generally requires careful handling and some maintenance to remain in the same condition over the years. The rugged nature of the leatherette cover and binding also makes it a great on-the-go option without comprising the reading experience. Which also makes them a great choice for a child or teen! I can't say enough about how underappreciated these amazing books are. Fathers and Sons is an 1862 novel by Ivan Turgenev, published in Moscow by Grachev & Co. It is one of the most acclaimed Russian novels of the 19th century. Turgenev wrote Fathers and Sons as a response to the growing cultural schism that he saw between liberals of the 1830s/1840s and the growing nihilist movement. Both the nihilists (the "sons") and the 1830s liberals (the "fathers") sought Western-based social change in Russia. Additionally, these two modes of thought were contrasted with the Slavophiles, who believed that Russia's path lay in its traditional spirituality. Turgenev's novel was responsible for popularizing the use of the term nihilism, which became widely used after the novel was published.
