The pump has a little switch to set the water flow and their are no batteries as it is electrical with an in-ine off/on switch for easy operation This is a very unique and soothing tabletop fountain that would be perfect for any home or office. I do want to mention the box does shown some shelf wear which is to be expected and the instructions are no longer in the box, however, it is very easy to put together.
