Lot of 13 HORNBLOWER books including a full set of the original novels by C.S. Forester plus the tied-in volumes, HORNBLOWER COMPANION and LIFE AND TIMES OF HORATIO HORNBLOWER. These are mostly US paperback pocketbooks (PPB) most of them with matching covers. Most were reprinted in the early 1980's with commendable artwork by Bruce Minney. They are each US reprints in quite good used condition but they do show some age and miles. Please read entire description and see all photos. No stock images; actual items depicted. The exact order of this series is probably debatable; I did the best I could> Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, Vol. 1, a 1981 US PPB published by Pinnacle Books in NYNY. "Eighth printing" is stated on the copyright page. Used with heavy spotting to page edges. Inside the book is quite clean with no scent nor moisture scarring. Some tip, fading and mild creases to spine. Some rubbing, scuffing and bumping to colors and covers; tanning to white areas. Very clean inside and pages are flat and snug to binding. No inked names or notes inside: Again, no scent nor stains inside. Lieutenant Hornblower; vol. 2, Sixth reprinting from Pinnacle, 1980 is the latest date I can find. Good reading copy but book is used with curve, heavy creasing and tip to spine. Heavy reader-wear to covers, edges and colors. Inside, the and pages are quite good; clean with some tanning. No ink nor notes. No scent that I can detect. Pages are flat, clean and sitting even. Hornblower And The Hotspur; vol. 3, Copyright page states "Fifth Printing, October 1980." US Pinnacle edition. Used with heavy fade, wear, curve to spine. Covers and colors took some heavy rubbing, scuffs. Pages show some tanning. No names nor inked. Spine is curved but pages are tight and sitting even. No ink nor scent; no stains. Hornblower and the Atropos; vol. 4, Pinnacle 1980 sixth US PPB reprinting stated on the copyright page. Used condition with curve, creases and tip to spine. Good reading copy but covers and colors took some creasing, edgewear and tanning to white areas. No ink inside. Very light pencil marks to first leaf. Beat to Quarters; Vol. 5, (US reprint; UK title is sometimes The Happy Return) Fourth reprint from Pinnacle, dated 1978. Heavily used with heavy tip and creasing to spine. Front cover is badly cracked at hinge. Back cover is missing top corner. Covers and colors are worn and faded with reader-wear, fade to both. Tanning inside. No names nor ink. Pages are flat, clean and sitting even. Very light pencil marks to first leaf, no stains nor odor that I can detect. OK reading copy. Ship Of The Line; vol. 6, 1983 Pinnacle reprint. heavy tanning inside covers and some to pages; readable and clean inside. Creases, reader wear and fade to tipped spine. Covers took some creasing and loss to corners. Rubbing and fade to colors. Pages are tanned inside but tight to spine, flat, clean and sitting mostly even. Flying Colors; vol. 7, Pinnacle Books 1981 fifth reprinting. Good reader copy condition with tip and creases to spine. Covers took some fade, rubbing and bumping; usual reader use; tanning to white areas. No ink inside. Spine is tipped and creased, pages are flat, clean and sitting even. No stains nor odor that I can detect. Commodore Hornblower; vol. 8, Fifth Pinnacle 1981 US PPB reprint. Used with heavy wear to spine. Decent reader-copy condition with good covers and pages. No ink inside. Usual reader wear but over-all a decent copy. Very light pencil marks to first leaf, no stains nor odor that I can detect. Lord Hornblower; vol. 9, Pinnacle sixth thus 1980 PPB. Heavy wear to curved, creased spine. Some loss to hinges. Creasing, color loss to front cover; a few corrected dog-ears inside otherwise a good reading copy. Creasing along spine to front cover. Colors and covers rubbed, smudged and bumped. No inked names or such. Spine is tipped but only mildly creased, pages are flat, clean and sitting even. No stains nor scent inside. Admiral Hornblower In The West Indies; vol. 10, (sometimes printed without the word 'Admiral' in the title.) Pinnacle Books 180 reprint. Good reader copy. Creased, tipped and curved spine. Colors and covers are quite good. Page tanned but flat, clean and tight to good binding. No inked names or such. No stains nor scent inside. Hornblower During the Crisis; vol. 11 (sometimes issued as Vol. 4; to be fair, it recounts stories from both Hornblower's youth and his twilight years.) Pinnacle 1981 US PPB. Seventh reprint. Very good condition with mild reader use. No stains nor scent. Good clean pages inside. The Hornblower Companion; The Complete And Indispensable Guide, written by Forester himself and illustrated by nautical scholar and painter, Samuel Bryant. Pinnacle 1975 stated second thus US PPB.
